    My husband and I are sauna lovers. We booked a welness suite with a sauna as a special treat for our 10 year wedding anniversary. Upon arrival it turned out that booking the welness suite is not allowed with a baby (we have an 8 month old). This information is not listed on the website, furthermore, in my booking I had an option to book a baby bed, which I did. We ended up having to stay in a standard room for a whooping price of 200 euro a night, hotel was unable to provide us with a discount and the only apology we received was free breakfast. Due to a mistake of the hotel (they did not decline our booking in advance as they should have) our anniversary trip was ruined, instead of enjoying a private sauna for a day we stayed in a small hotel room on the outskirts of Almere. Hotel itself is ok (bad location but nice rooms) but customer service and booking system need significant improvement. PS Hotel does have a welness area but it is very small, old/not renovated and crowded.

    Shocking Lack of Accountability – Avoid if You Expect Professionalism I’m appalled by how Van der Valk Hotel Almere handled a simple lost-and-found situation with complete negligence and zero accountability. I stayed there in April 2025, and after checking out, I realized I had left behind a high-value headset (€300). I called the hotel within 2 hours, and they confirmed the item had been found and would be kept securely. I offered to pay for a courier or have a colleague collect it later. They assured me that wouldn’t be a problem. Weeks later, when my colleague came to retrieve it, the hotel suddenly claimed it was gone — hiding behind a supposed “30-day policy” that was never communicated, not in person, not on their website, and not in any written follow-up. Worst of all, despite having my full contact details, no one bothered to notify me before discarding the item. This wasn’t a communication gap — it was a complete failure in process, ownership, and basic guest respect. Instead of taking responsibility, the staff made excuses and pushed the blame onto me. This is not the behavior you expect from a so-called corporate hotel — it’s careless, unprofessional, and frankly disgraceful. Van der Valk has clearly damaged its own reputation by failing to implement even the most basic standards of customer care. I strongly advise others to think twice before trusting them with anything — especially when things go wrong. Because if they do, you’ll be the one paying for their mistakes.

    EDIT February 2025: I have since gone back to this hotel and they held their promise of upgrading me to a new room due to all past issues. Everything was fine and the sky suite was amazing. -- I went twice to this hotel for business. The first time, the bedsheets were stained with what appears to have been blood. Not just a little. They offered me a new room which was fine. The second time I visited this hotel, I woke up with 3 bed bugs on my sheets. They also offered me a new identical room, but the reception didn't seem too shocked at that discovery. At least this new room didn't have bedbugs. Breakfast on a Sunday at 10AM, some products were empty, most tables didn't have cutlery on them and no service personnel to be found. I might consider a different hotel chain next time or AirBNB. Check your beds before you get in them. EDIT 30/10/2024: I have been contacted by the Hotel manager, which presented me his excuses, assured me that a professional cleaning company has taken care of the bed bug issue, they completely refunded my stay and offered an upgrade for my next time. We shall see if it gets better.

    It was quite beautiful and the lunch was amazing. However, it was quite hard getting the attention of the sisters in the restaurant. Although the service was lovely

    First class hotel, rooms large and clean , nothing too much trouble, large free carpark. Well worth a visit
