Loved it! This is a minimalist hotel. You get exactly what is advertised and what you pay for. The property and rooms are clean and aesthetic. The Aircon works perfectly. The bed is comfortable. The staff is cordial and professional. The coffee is decent. The bathroom exceeded my expectations. This is not a problem but a suggestion for future travellers - if you have luggage, best to book a Bolt taxi rather than taking public transport. The walk from the metro / bus is a bit long and the pavement is not really friendly for trolley suitcases. Bottomline - better to pay a little more and book Poppies rather than staying and sharing your bed at a hostel. 🙂

We absolutely loved our stay at Poppies. Affordable accommodation. Tiny rooms but perfectly equipped with basic necessities. The interiors were quite well thought and designed as per needs. The staff was very kind and helpful. They also have a cafe where the coffee was just perfect and the almond croissant is a must try! we had it every morning of our visit. The location was also quite decent, close to bus stops, and a short nice walk to the metro. From central, one could also take a ferry, or else there were buses and metro to reach. What I particularly liked is that even when we came back late at night, the area felt relatively safe and the hotel was only a few minutes walk from the bus stop. We were also a bit hesitant about the lack of windows in the room but the big light included to imitate natural lighting was absolutely amazing. It actually did feel like a big window and made us feel quite comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

We stayed here for a night. Pros: very cheap car parking outside (1.66€/h 9-19, free in the night), the bed was big and comfortable. But pay attention to dimensions: the double room is small, more than expected. If you have a big luggage and you are in two people, there might be problems to arrange space! However, good experience for the price. 30 min waking to Amsterdam central station.

Really excellent experience at Poppies. They keep prices super low due to the rooms being not much bigger than the size of the bed and with no natural light, and also the slightly random industrial estate location (not prohibitively far from the central - you can walk it in 20-ish mins or a short cycle/taxi ride - but you certainly don't feel like you're in 'in the middle of things'). The flipside of this is that - for pretty much the same price as a private room in a youth hostel - you can afford to stay in a space that is beautifully and carefully designed, clean and well maintained, with enormous attention to detail in the rooms and bathrooms. Everything about the interiors felt like the quality of a much more expensive, modern hotel. They've really gone out of their way to provide great, high quality, grown-up short-term accomodation at an affordable price. Very clever idea in this city saturated by insanely expensive hotels and Airbnbs. Also the little mini lobby-cafe is lovely, with the best almond croissants I've ever encountered and good coffee. And friendly, smiley staff. I'm a huge Poppies fan - I'll be back.

This review goes ONLY for the café/bar they have. I live in the area and, since Poppies opened, I go there to enjoy their good coffee. Ofc coffee slightly changes according to the hands of the person who prepares it, but even if the staff is always changing I’ve never been disappointed before. Even their decaf coffee is surprisingly good. This time though, a few moments ago, I went for my usual latte. While being about to enter the door I already saw a young man standing up and heading to the bar to receive me. He already seemed annoyed by the fact I arrived (the place was empty). I ordered my coffee to go and he picked a small cup. The latte costs 4,30 and is the size of a big cup. Indeed he was charging me 4,30 so no chance he was thinking I wanted a small latte (in case they even have it, which I ignore). I told him “I usually get it in a large cup” without meaning to sound rude. He made a comment I wasn’t able to hear and kept avoiding any eye contact till the end. He gave me two stamps, which I appreciated but didn’t make up for his bad energy. Unfortunately, the coffee taste somehow reflected the zero enthusiasm the young man put into it, the cup was almost half empty and there was no minimal attempt of any latte art (which in any case wouldn’t necessarily affect the taste per se). I myself serve coffee to costumers, I know how things go. I can empathise and understand different possible reasons why this person gave me this treatment and I’m not taking it personally because of that, but I’m giving the place a 1* review for this because it’s just unacceptable.
