I’ve been a customer of Swapfiets for a couple of years and for the most part, I’ve been happy with the service. I had a few minor issues here and there but they were promptly resolved. A few months ago, I started having problems with both the front and rear lights. I visited the Ceintuurbaan branch in April, where the staff member installed a temporary rear light since the main one wasn’t working. He also said he couldn’t find any issue with the front light after testing it. Fast forward three months, and I’m still experiencing problems with the front light as it works intermittently. I returned to the Ceintuurbaan branch today and received the worst customer service. The employee tested the light and said it was working fine. When I explained the issue, he literally laughed at me as if I were making it up. He asked me to record a video of the problem because otherwise I could be making this up. When I pointed out that filming while cycling is dangerous and illegal, he just looked at me and asked “What do you want me to do?”. I told him I expected the issue to be properly investigated as I didn’t want to keep coming back. In the end, he reluctantly agreed to look into it and replaced the bike with a new one. Please train your employees to show more empathy toward customers.

I don’t recommend renting bikes at Swapfiets. Me and my friends used their bikes from June 25th to June 30th and were told by one employee that the cost for one month was 20 something euros. This employee told us that in order to avoid being charged for the July subscription we had to cancel before the start of July. So we did when we took back the bikes on June 30th. When we got back home, a few days later, Swapfiets started sending me emails about a payment I still had to do: I didn’t understand so I asked for explanations. We spent a few days sending emails, they said that if we cancelled on the 30th of June we have been charged for the July subscription as well. Making the final fee at around 45€. Basically they told me that what their employee said it’s not true and their terms and conditions work another way, therefore I had to pay for double the prince we were initially told. First, why the hell if I’m not going to use your service on July and booked an appointment on the 30th of June that YOU confirmed, am I to pay for July as well?? Second, if your terms and conditions work that way you should tell it clearly to your customers. If one of your employees made a mistake of miscommunication it shouldn’t be the customer to pay for that. As if the whole situation hadn’t been annoying enough, at one point they stopped replying to my emails (once they asked me for more infos, which I gave, so I expected a reply!) and sent me a “final chance to pay” email WITH AN ADDITIONAL FEE because we had been talking for some days. This is not the way to treat customers.

Stay away from this company. You can buy a second hand, perfectly serviceable bike for the cost of 1 months subscription. They have no empathy or kindness. My story: Took out my own sub in late 2019. Process was relatively straightforward. 2020 was a difficult year for everyone. Coronoa came, WFH mandates came, Lockdowns came. My father in the UK was sick and i couldnt travel back. Was emotionally overwhelmed. I honestly forgot i even had the subscription as the bike was holed up in Utrecht CS and i had other things on my mind. Fast forward 2024 and im audting my finances and discover im still paying for a subscription (paid them almost 1500 euros by now). So i contact their customer service, explain my situation and ask for either a replacement bike, or to cancel my subscription (figured paying them 1.5k euro would be more than enough to offset the cost of one bike.. and they can see that ive requested no service of this bike, or repairs etc in this 5 year period). Unfortunately, the company lacks all empathy or decency. My options are to pay them monthly for the rest of time, or declare the bike lost and pay their fine (which they will not wave due to my circumstances). I appreciate that some of this is certainly my own fault, but ive never dealt with such an emotionless and unwilling to compromise company before.

It’s Pride season in Amsterdam 🌈 but apparently, not all stores celebrate inclusion. After trusting @Swapfiets for safe ridings since Mai 2023, I ended up with a knee injury from a bike they called “safe.” When I came back, injured and with a confirmed appointment, I was ignored, denied help, and the staff member refused to give his name. As a queer person of color, I left feeling deeply discriminated against. If you value safety and respect ? especially during Pride? avoid the Ceintuurbaan location. Swapfiets, inclusion isn’t just for marketing. It should start at the door.

I went yesterday to get my cycle repaired with few things. Team is really active and helpful!- given review 4 months ago. I don’t have any doubts with the quality of service. The staff are really attentive and helpful. My bike is with 7 gears. I have changed three bikes due to various issues within short period. The bike quality is poor as one time issue with brakes other time issue with turning the handles. Also the condition of the current bike is also not Upton the mark. It seems that Swapfiets does not care about city bikes anymore and more focus on ebikes. Really disappointed with Swapfiets!!!- Updated review
